A Quick History
The Battle of the Fantasy Gods started back in 2007 when I, Mike Kuchera (a.k.a. The Fantasy Man) of Fantasy Sports Express, Inc. put together group of fantasy baseball experts, columnists, bloggers, and/or podcasters in an all out fantasy baseball face off. It was a 12 team, mixed, roto, 5x5, $270 budget auction draft league. Some participants included Tim McLoed of Roto Rob, Tim Dierkes of Roto Authority, Heath Schaffer of Roto Champs, Brad Stewart of MLB Front Office, Knox Bardeen of Crooked Pitch and a few others I can't think of.
As it turned out, I won my own league, and then no one wanted to play in 2008, so the league disbanded! As funny as that sounds, some of the same participants from that original league have been invited and plan to participate in the 2009 rebirth!
Going forward into 2009, I am going to brush the dust off this league's shoulders and start up something new and exciting. The hope is that the experts who join this league will be dedicated to making the league great. The people I have invited are some of the people who I keep in contact with the most in this industry and are the people who I work with and collaborate with from time to time. However, this will not be an impossible league to join. If spots are open and experts/columnists/bloggers/and podcasters are interested and are serious about contributing to this league and blog, then they'll have a chance to enter this madness. We may even offer another league at some point in this off season to accomodate more experts/analysts.
At the same time, participants are going to be asked to contribute to this blog. They can post thoughts, ideas, strategies in a way to help educate fellow fantasy managers of all levels who might want to follow along as well as have the opportunity to promote their own websites for free.
With that being said, the Battle of the Fantasy Gods Expert League Draft will hold it's 12 team draft at Mock Draft Central on Monday, January 5th at 8PM Eastern Standard Time. More details will be posted as we get closer to this date.
Here are the actual league details......
We will play the league out on CBSSports.com. It will be a 12 team, mixed, roto, 5x5, 23 man roster (no bench), 2C,1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5OF, 1DH, 9P. Pick up a player, drop a player. Simple as that!
